We are seeking a skilled Senior Controller that combines the responsibilities of both a Fund Controller and a Corporate Controller. Responsibilities
Oversee financial accounting and operations for both investment funds and the management company
Manage the preparation of financial statements for funds and corporate entities in accordance with US GAAP
Coordinate with the fund administrator to ensure accurate NAV calculations and investor reporting
Oversee corporate accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, and expense management
Lead month-end and year-end close processes for both fund and corporate entities
Implement and maintain robust internal controls for fund and corporate operations
Coordinate with external auditors for fund audits and fund/corporate tax filings
Lead and mentor a junior accounting/finance professional
Fund-Accounting:
Serve as the primary liaison between the fund and third-party fund administrator
Review and approve NAV calculations, investor statements, and other administrator-produced reports
Manage capital calls, distributions, and valuation activities for investment funds
Implement and oversee shadow accounting processes to independently verify critical financial data
Manage the resolution of discrepancies in administrator-produced reports
Ensure compliance with fund-specific regulatory requirements and reporting standards (SEC, FCA)
Coordinate and manage annual fund audits with external auditors
Oversee the preparation and filing of fund tax returns (K-1s)
Liaise with tax advisors to ensure optimal tax structuring for the fund and its investments
Corporate-Accounting:
Prepare financial statements for management and board meetings in accordance with GAAP
Ensure compliance with corporate tax regulations and filings
Oversee the month-end close & consolidation process, including balance sheet and cash/bank reconciliations
Supervise the timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and employee expense reports
Ensure proper revenue recognition and accounting accrual processes
Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures for the management company
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in fund accounting and corporate accounting roles
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; MBA and/or CPA a plus
Understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology a plus, but not required
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, particularly related to investment companies and partnerships
General knowledge of partnership tax rules, PFIC regulations, and Schedule K-1 a plus, but not required
General knowledge of SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) regulations and FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) guidelines a plus, but not required
Experience with both fund operations and management company accounting
Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems (Sage), and advanced Excel skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
Capacity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
$120,000 - $165,000 a year
Compensation: The expected base salary for this New York based position ranges from $120,000 - $165,000. The actual base salary will be determined on an individual basis taking into account a number of factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, relevant certifications, skills, and geographic location. In addition to base salary and the competitive benefits package listed above, this position is eligible for additional types of compensation, including target-based incentives.
