The Markets team within the Institutional Product Group is responsible for latency sensitive exchanges within Coinbase. As a Senior Staff Engineer, you’ll drive the industry forward in performance, availability, and capital efficiency. The team itself comprises passionate engineers who rise to the challenge of building rapidly in a rigorous and unforgiving domain. We expect the role to involve novel application of both computer science fundamentals and research to solve difficult engineering problems in a unique performance envelope.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
Build and extend mission critical submillisecond cloud systems
Code with talented and passionate engineers
Write extensive tests and testing harnesses to increase development velocity
Ruthlessly drive speed of code builds and tests, speed of development, and speed in project execution
Build the team with people you like to work with
Learn and understand the key drivers and trends in trading and the crypto economy
Simplify systems by removing tools/paradigms that are no longer needed
Bias the team towards action
What we look for in you:
12+ years of experience in roles providing technical leadership and direction for software engineering and development
Strong code reading skills
Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills
Readiness to code and test rapidly
Experience with distributed systems and large scale engineering challenges
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a bias toward open, transparent cultural practices.
Comfortable leading large cross-functional initiatives, and collaborating with product managers, UX designers, and engineering teams.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$246,500—$290,000 USD
