The Arbitrum Foundation is an organisation based in the Cayman Islands that is tasked with developing and nurturing the Arbitrum ecosystem. This includes Arbitrum One, an Optimistic Rollup, that instantly scales apps, reducing costs and increasing capacity, without sacrificing Ethereum's security and Arbitrum Nova, which allows for ultra-low-cost fees by leveraging AnyTrust technology making it ideal for Social and Gaming applications.
Arbitrum is the leading Ethereum scaling solution with dominant market share including hundreds of apps on the platform and over $13bn TVL. Most importantly, it is also a steward for the ArbitrumDAO, which is one of the largest, most active and decentralised DAOs in the world.
The Head of Governance role focuses on the interplay between the Arbitrum Foundation and the ArbitrumDAO, with a mandate to activate the DAO to independently fulfil its unique objectives. This role requires a strategic thinker with a background in decentralised governance, multi-stakeholder coordination, regulatory awareness and facilitation within DAO settings. This person will work with our team to manage the Arbitrum Foundation’s relationship with the ArbitrumDAO.
Key Responsibilities
Develop a strategic governance roadmap that aligns with both the Arbitrum Foundation's goals and the DAO’s unique mission, focusing on enabling DAO autonomy.
Identify and implement strategies that encourage DAO self-governance, helping the community to operationalize their initiatives independently.
Guide the DAO in establishing efficient governance processes and tools to streamline operations and decision-making.
Provide strategic advice to the DAO on key topics like resource management to guide informed decision-making.
Build a network of expert advisors across various domains and connect the DAO with these resources to support the successful execution of initiatives.
Act as the primary liaison for DAO delegates, contributors, and service providers, bridging communication between the Arbitrum Foundation, the DAO community and other DAO-governed organisations as they emerge.
Work with community teams to develop effective onboarding processes that activate and sustain DAO participation, aligning with both the DAO’s and Foundation’s missions.
Partner with research and education teams to deliver resources and training that upskill DAO members on governance tools, processes, and best practices.
Facilitate regular feedback channels to ensure DAO members are supported and informed, empowering them to take ownership of their governance activities.
Maintain detailed governance documentation to keep DAO members and the community informed and aligned.
Monitor the lifecycle of DAO proposals, ensuring compliance with governance protocols and supporting the DAO in adhering to timelines and agreements.
Mediate disputes and enforce agreements to maintain the integrity and trust of the DAO’s governance framework.
Lead outreach efforts to attract new community members, developers, and contributors to the DAO, with an emphasis on fostering a self-sustaining governance model.
Collaborate with marketing and ecosystem growth teams to amplify DAO initiatives across social platforms and events, bolstering DAO visibility and impact.
Collaborate with other DAO-governed organizations to uphold and promote industry-leading transparency standards, ensuring accountability and trust across the ecosystem.
Update the Arbitrum Foundation on governance milestones and DAO progress, contributing to transparency and alignment between the DAO and the Foundation.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in DAO governance, decentralized community management, or similar roles within blockchain or Web3 settings.
Strong project management skills, with experience using governance tools and platforms (e.g., Snapshot, Tally) to support DAO operations.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
Knowledge of Ethereum, Layer 2 scaling solutions, and DAO dynamics is a plus.
Recognized as a respected leader with an extensive network within the blockchain and Web3 communities.
At the Arbitrum Foundation, we believe that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are essential to our success. We are committed to building a welcoming and supportive workplace for all employees, regardless of their background or identity.
